How CBD may help pain management patients.

CBD has been valuable for various patients in their quest to manage chronic pain. Research teams around the world are working in clinical trials and studies to understand exactly how CBD works with the human body to provide relief to these patients. At the moment the information that we have is based on patient testimonials and personal experiences.

The truth is that many chronic pain patients are on multiple prescription medications to get through the day. These pill regimens come with a slew of side effects in themselves. Many chronic pain patients have found relief using cannabis products with the full spectrum of chemical compounds (cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, etc.). That being said, CBD can be a great place to start with cannabis medicine.

Anti-Inflammatory

One very prevalent aspect of CBD treatment in pain management is the anti-inflammatory properties of the cannabinoid. The endocannabinoid system seems to play a key role in regulating excess inflammation throughout the body. Inflammation being the leading cause of chronic joint and muscle pain. Daily hemp oil supplements can be valuable in a slow, chronic treatment for this. There are also transdermal patches that last up to 92 hours that can provide CBD to our endocannabinoid receptors. Though isolated CBD can have benefit, many recommend a more diverse approach to cannabis treatment using terpenes and other cannabinoids as well.

Lesser Side Effects

Pain management prescriptions like opioids often cause unwanted side effects like sedation, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, physical dependence, tolerance, and respiratory depression. CBD, while it does not cause the same level of ‘high’ feelings as opioids, has very little to no side effects. Some patients report drowsiness, dry mouth, low blood pressure and lightheadedness. Comparing the two, CBD seems to be the lesser of two sets of side effects.

Calms Muscles

After 10 years of yoga practice I am learning that it isn’t just about our muscles being too tense to stretch. Sometimes our minds can hold us back as well, for example stretching the hamstrings can sometimes clench the thighs. CBD oil and balms can help promote calmness in the muscles that promotes relaxation and pain relief.

These are some of the greatest benefits we’ve found from the use of CBD hemp oil and/or CBD balm, lotions, and salves. Those who find benefit might also enjoy bath bombs or salts that are infused with cannabis.
