If You Predicted That Elon Musk Would Allow Cannabis Ads On Twitter, You Were Right!

Business magnate Elon Musk completed the acquisition of Twitter on October 27, 2022. In 2018, Musk smoked marijuana in public during a podcast with comedian Joe Rogan. After the incident that set the internet ablaze, Musk and his staff at SpaceX (Musk’s other company) had to go through a series of drug tests. The incident affirmed the billionaire’s support for the cannabis industry, leading many to predict a free pass for the industry when Musk acquired Twitter four years later.

Major social media companies have been anything but kind towards cannabis businesses. Apart from restricting ads on Google, Facebook and Instagram, cannabis influencer accounts have also been shut down in the past.

Last week, Twitter announced that they have changed their “drugs and drug paraphernalia”  policy to allow “approved” and state-legal cannabis companies to advertise THC and CBD products, accessories and services, on the Twitter platform. While the companies will be allowed to promote their brands and cannabis information to legal markets within their jurisdiction, they will not be allowed to run ads that are appealing to minors.
