In April of 2017 the Denver Department of Environmental Health (DEH) published guidance for hemp manufacturers in the city and restricted the sale of CBD products originating from unregulated sources. By July the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) were accepting applications for edible CBD manufacturers.
These rules affect all manufacturing processes and procedures for hemp-derived CBD products sold within city limits. They are also implemented to protect the public from hemp plants grown overseas using unsustainable or dangerous methods. These newer regulations require that all of these business processes now undergo on-site inspections from the Public Health Inspections Division.
The rules were set to remove the ability of any hemp-derived products from unregulated markets to be sold within the city of Denver and create more oversight in Colorado’s successful hemp industry. Manufacturers of consumable CBD products outside of Colorado may be subject to a license if they comply with safe consumption criteria.
Denver-based hemp-based company Folium Biosciences are on board with these new regulations. In fact, in a recent press release, the company announced that they are confident these changes will maintain quality control for the Denver cannabis consumer. Folium recently underwent one of the many inspections now scheduled by the Public Health Inspections Division.
Folium Biosciences is based in Colorado Springs, but are the largest vertically integrated producer, manufacturer, and distributor of hemp-derived phytocannabinoid rich products in the country. Their hemp is registered with the Colorado State Department of Agriculture, grown in accordance with section 7606 of the 2014 US Farm Bill, and now, it passes inspection from the Public Health Inspections Division.
With these implementations, the city of Denver has become the first to create any system of oversight for the manufacturers of hemp products in the city. With their recent approval from the Department of Environmental Health Folium is now able to continue selling their hemp oil CBD products throughout the mile-high city.
