The Hydrology9 from Cloudious9 is the future of portable vaping; delivering flavor, effects, and all of the satisfaction that we get from our classic water bong with none of the combustion.

New technology is always exciting in the cannabis community since years of prohibition has kept new developments in the shadows. This rings especially true when it comes to developments in vaping dry herb. A lot of options in this department tend to bake unevenly which results in an altered flavor often likened to burnt popcorn. The Hydrology9 from Cloudious9 is bringing an entirely new face to portable dry herb vaporizers.  From the fact that it filters each hit through bubbling water to the super groovy lava lamp mode, the Hydrology9 is a vape nerd’s dream. With the even convection of the herbs and smooth, flavorful hits; it may even replace a bong or two down the line.

This water-filtered portable dry herb vape is a stainless steel cylinder that stands upright at a little over six inches. The chamber is made of food grade porcelain and sits atop a chip that maintains an even temperature that is safe to the touch. The vape fits well in the palm of a hand and hits nicely with the ergonomic mouthpiece right on top. The mouthpiece is covered with a matching magnetic cover to keep the space clean. At the bottom of the unit is the chamber, just unscrew the bottom piece and gently tamp a nice big bowl of ground up flowers right in. There is also a really cool feature located at the bottom of the Hydrology9, the patent-pending swivel that non-intrusively stirs the buds during our portable vaping sesh for a completely even bake.

The piece is built with LED lights at the bottom of the chamber to indicate how the Hydrology9 is operating and what temperature it’s heating to. Before heating, fill the water chamber by unscrewing the mouthpiece unit from the chamber. This will reveal a space that allows us to slowly fill the water tank, fill to about 60-70% to leave some room for vapor. Too much water also tends to get sucked up into the mouthpiece if we’re vigorous with our pull. To get started, click the button fast three times. If it is turning on it will blink green, turning off takes the same action but the light will blink red. Once it is on, click the start button just one time to switch through the temperature settings. Each temperature setting will light the water with a unique LED color, going in order from low to high as follows: Blue, Yellow, Orange, Purple, and Red. While it is heating it will slowly blink in the set color and then shine green when it’s ready. Once ready, simply remove the magnetized cap from the mouthpiece and begin inhaling.

Vaping with the Hydrology9 is simply but a dream. The temperature settings allow us to target a specific vapor and flavor for a customizable experience. Inhale for a tasty, terpy hit that is so cool that we can bake the herbs to a crisp brown without the slightest sign of coughing. Filtering the vapor through water provides a cools the hit so all we experience is the crisp flavor of our buds. The only flower that has made me cough using the Hydrology9 is that which I know has been sprayed with legal i502 pesticides. While hitting the piece, give the chamber 5-10 seconds to reheat between pulls to let the temperature recover.

A regular session lasts for two minutes before the LED lights turn blue and go into standby mode for 60 seconds. To continue the session at this point, simply push the start button again just once. When we’re with friends we change the Hydrology9 to party mode by holding the button down for three seconds after it is heated to the desired temp. The lights will change through all of the colors to indicate this setting, party mode will hold the temp for 10 minutes to allow for relaxed vaping with friends. When the session is over but we want to keep the party going, we switch to lava lamp mode by holding the button down for three seconds while the piece is on but not in operation. Though it is easy to operate, this dry herb vape feels designed to fit our needs.

When it comes to user experience, Cloudious9 really has a grasp on what we want, need, and didn’t even know was possible from a portable dry herb vaporizer.
