As of this week, DB Labs became the first ISO 17025 accredited cannabis testing lab in Las Vegas.
Having an ISO accredited cannabis testing lab available can assure the average consumer that they are receiving quality cannabis that isn’t contaminated. DB Labs was the first lab to open and test in Nevada, and now they’re proud to also operate with ISO 17025 accreditation. Current Nevada regulations do require some contaminant testing but ISO standards are more rigorous.
Susan Bunce, President at DB Labs, stated, “As the first cannabis-testing laboratory in Nevada, DB Labs has always taken patient safety very seriously and has always tried to raise the bar. Now, being the first lab in Las Vegas to receive ISO 17025 accreditation, we are setting the standard and want to set a good example for other labs.”
DB Labs understands that the consumer is in control of their cannabis industry, that being said, the cannabis testing lab focuses on educating Nevada residents. A discerning consumer could lead to shifting regulations for more rigorous cannabis testing lab standards. That’s why DB Labs has made a Consumer Guide which interested parties can find at their local dispensary. The educational pamphlet contains information on the effects of various terpenes and the potential dangers of using cannabis that hasn’t been tested for all possible contaminants.
Bunce added, “The world of cannabis testing is often compared to the Wild West: each lab uses state regulations to set their standards, but it leaves a lot of room for subjective interpretations. The ISO accreditation removes the ambiguity and guarantees a consistent level of testing to users. We are proud to be a part of that.”
Subjective interpretation in the laboratory leaves a large margin of error in the final test results. For the consumer, this means buying products that should have the same effects based on cannabinoid content, but possibly receiving very different results. Continuity in the cannabis industry starts with continuity in cannabis testing lab regulations. Becoming ISO 17025 accredited is a big step for DB Labs in accomplishing this goal of continuity.
Kelly Zaugg, a DB Labs laboratory manager, stated, “Now that cannabis cultivators, production facilities, and medical marijuana patients have an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory to partner with, they are guaranteed that results from DB Labs are the most accurate and reliable. We are happy to show our continued commitment in providing high-quality service that the community can depend upon.”
