When you think of things that can help seedlings t When you think of things that can help seedlings thrive at their earliest stages of development, a fungus is probably at the bottom of that list, but a team of researchers recently hypothesized that maybe cannabis cultivators should be looking to a specific type of fungus to aid in their growing efforts.

Rhizohagus irregularis is a type of fungus called an arbuscular mycorrhiza fungus (AMF). Fungi in this family have previously been shown to have symbiotic relationships with plants and are even capable of boosting plant growth. The researchers tested several different concentrations of R. irregularis spores on cannabis seedlings in a hydroponic setup and found that the fungus did, in fact, help the seedlings grow. [1]'

Plants growth and production of secondary metaboli Plants growth and production of secondary metabolites can be influenced by external factors, both abiotic (non-living) and biotic (living). Even if technological advancements have been made for cannabis breeding and many different varieties with different phenotypic traits have been cultivated, there is still lack of systematic studies about the effect of soil microbiota on cannabis secondary metabolites, which plays an important role in plant survival in its environment. Microbiota refers to the collection of microorganisms that reside within a given habitat.

Within secondary metabolites, cannabinoids are the main compounds responsible for the vast majority of cannabis medicinal activity, with cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) generally present in higher concentrations. For medical and pharmaceutical purposes, it is important that the ratio of CBD and THC remains stable for the same cannabis chemovar.

Today’s cannabis production has largely moved in Today’s cannabis production has largely moved indoors. These farms can be extremely profitable, but they’re associated with high starting and operating costs.
A new microbial biostimulant released by Colorado State University called Mammoth PTM might be able to help indoor cannabis farmers increase their yield in a more affordable way.
Indoor Soil Conditions
There are natural advantages to growing plants in soil. Research suggests that soil bacteria may augment the plant’s nutrient uptake, especially as it’s related to phosphorous.

Few climates allow for year-round outdoor grow sea Few climates allow for year-round outdoor grow seasons for cannabis. This leads cannabis cultivators to grow indoors. Cultivating cannabis indoors comes with its own set of challenges. One of the most important factors affecting the performance of indoor-grown cannabis is lighting.

High-pressure sodium (HPS) light bulbs have been the traditional light source used for growing cannabis indoors. As energy efficiency and consumption continues to be a concern for growers, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are becoming more popular. We know LEDs are more energy efficient than HPS lights, but do they reduce photosynthetic performance and potency?

Plant-chomping insects can influence the level of Plant-chomping insects can influence the level of cannabinoids in industrially grown hemp, researchers at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore have found. [1]

In lab conditions, the hemp-devouring appetite of the corn earworm — an insect dubbed “the number one hemp pest in North America” — significantly increased the level of cannabinoids in cannabidiol-rich (CBD) hemp varieties of Cherry Blossom and The Wife.

The latter variety, however, did not exhibit a change in natural levels of CBD and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (D9-THC) levels when the experiment was replicated in the field, despite changes in Cherry Blossom having been measured.

The expo is collaborating with Rod Kight, Owner of Kight Law Office and Author of Kight on Cannabis, who warned North Carolina’s hemp industry that as of June 30, 2022, all forms of cannabis will be considered illegal marijuana with no apparent exception for hemp if immediate action is not taken.

The #KeepHempLegal campaign, created by MACE Media Group, aims to bring together Business Owners, Hemp organizations, Manufacturers, Retailers, and Cultivators to advocate for the legality of Hemp in the state of North Carolina under one roof. “We’ve contacted several businesses and organizations in North Carolina and it’s amazing to see that they’re all advocating for the legality of Hemp… but they’re not doing it together.” Says COO of MACE Media Group, Graciela Moreno.
